About Me
My name is Mina Dordevic. I provide therapy and psychological counselling services for a range of difficulties such as anxiety and stress, depression, low self-esteem, relationship issues, parenting issues, panic disorder, OCD, phobias, etc. In working with clients in both individual and group work, I am committed to providing a supportive environment and make every client feel safe and understood. I create a personalized approach using proven techniques and concepts from Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), Compassion focused therapy (CFT), and Shema work to help clients face the challenges in their life and prepare them to confidently deal with difficulties in the future.
I have graduated with Bachelor's and Master’s degree in Psychology from Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb. Following that I have finished training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and have been awarded accreditation by European Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Therapy (EABCT). I have also attended trainings in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which is a form of mindfulness based therapy and Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) - both “third wave” cognitive behavioral therapies focused less on the exact content of the thoughts and feelings and more on how a person relates to these internal experiences (i.e., thoughts, urges, sensations). In my work I also integrate schema work theory and techniques in order to help clients to get to know and rework negative patterns learned in childhood and teach them how to ensure that their emotional needs are met in a healthy way that doesn’t cause distress.
During the 10-months, professional enrichment Hubert Humphrey Fellowship program at the Penn State University (PSU), University Park, PA, USA, I have been involved in the work of the Dr. Edwin L. Herr Clinic, run by the Department of Educational Psychology, Counseling, and Special Education, and the Career Services, and I have been attending classes related to counseling theories and methods, which helped me to ground my work in more theoretical frameworks and expand my repertoire of techniques to include principles of Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Client-Centered Therapy and Existential Therapy.
During my graduate studies, I attended clinical placement at the Pediatric Clinic of the University Hospital Centre Zagreb and in the Society for Psychological Assistance Modus in Zagreb.
In the period from 2013 to 2015 I worked as an associate author of the Croatian psychological web portal Istraži me in the field of developmental psychology and have published a paper Helping Children Build Inner-Driven Self-Esteem by Turning Praise into Encouragement for MedCrave - Journal of Psychology & Clinical Psychiatry.
I am a member of the Croatian Psychological Chamber, Croatian Chamber of Psychotherapists and the Croatian Society for Behavioral-Cognitive Therapy.
